Passage

Immortal instinct runs underground

In spiraling pools,

Holding mountains to its breast in the dark.

Streams of centuries spill

Over tapestried cliffs,

While in the far distant world of man,

Voices cry out

That we are only a body that will end.

But we have listened to the river –

Dreaming of the sea –

And know otherwise.
